At Elysian Insight, we believe in positively contributing to the growth and development of future practitioners in the field. Whether in the context of sports, the performing arts, or business, supervised hands-on experience in mental performance consulting in Canada is extremely rare. Yet, such mentoring is key to helping the next cohort of practitioners get solid experience, constructive feedback, and meaningful opportunities to reflect on their growing experiences as practitioners, right where it all happens – in the field. We believe that when YOU succeed, we all succeed. This is why we are committed to this mentorship program. It's about continually inspiring reflective, best practices in all of us.

Every year, Elysian Insight welcomes two highly motivated, up and coming professionals as Mental Performance Interns within our Mentorship program. We invite applications for internships from anyone interested in the field of mental performance, however priority will be given to graduate-level students in human kinetics, counseling, and psychology. Internships are customized both in length and degrees of engagement to meet the student intern's graduate program requirements and thus vary from 4-12 months. Our interns contribute to Elysian Insight's work both behind the scenes (administrative, scheduling, marketing, education, research and writing, etc) as well as with direct client experiences: this may include shadowing, co-leading Team Talks and Workshops, and/or taking on clients for supervised One-on-One consultations. In the past five years, Mental Performance Interns have come from, and/or gone onto to, the following graduate level program:

  • The University of Ottawa's School of Human Kinetics's Intervention and Consultation in Sport, Physical Activity, and Health MA program
  • St-Paul's University's Counselling and Spirituality MA program
  • European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC)'s European Masters Studies in Sport and Exercise Psychology (EMSSEP) program
  • Algonquin College's Performance Coaching Ontario College Graduate Certificate program

This internship aims to provide interns with:

  • Opportunities to get hands on consulting experience with athletes, artists, and/or business leaders
  • Opportunities for active supervision where regular weekly and/or monthly meetings will allow for the facilitation of meaningful conversation based on client cases, as well as for the sound preparation and careful debriefing of emerging consulting experiences
  • Opportunities to work within a positive, supportive team environment, where inspired questions, curiosity, and ideas are welcomed, generous spirits and knowledge sharing encouraged, individual talents invited to shine, and collective efforts valued and rewarded
  • Opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects pertaining to research and writing, educational product development, administrative projects, and/or marketing strategies
  • Opportunities to gain an insider’s look into the process of running a consulting business in mental performance for athletes, artists, and business leaders

While this is an unpaid internship, we don’t believe in having you work for free any longer than necessary as part of your growth, education, and professional development. Aiming to support successful transitions from academics to applied contexts, this internship is therefore not renewable. However, it bears mention that exceptional interns may be invited to join the Elysian Insight team as Mental Performance Consultants upon graduation. Those interested in the possibility of long-term employment with Elysian Insight are encouraged to mention this in their application.
